Spring break is next week, which means sun-tanning, having your own spacious bedroom and eating home-cooked meals. But whether you’re laying out in the sun or watching TV in your bed, you should be listening to Clams Casino’s remix of Big K.R.I.T’s, “Moon & Stars.”
It’s rare to hear a substantial lyricist rap over synthetic, ambient sounds, but producer Clams Casino has been changing the underground rap game lately — which has transitioned from thick, abrasive beats to more mellow undertones. Although the drums are still domineering in “Moon & Stars,” the diversity of genres makes this song extremely unique.
Big K.R.I.T. is a Southern rapper who has come a long way in the underground rap scene. Last year was arguably his breakthrough year, where he performed with Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller on nation-wide tours. In fact, Big K.R.I.T. released latest, much-anticipated album yesterday, “4Eva N A Day,” which already has music magazines raving.
Although the original version of “Moon & Stars” was great, Clams Casino gives the song an entirely new feel. His sound has been highly acclaimed in the past year and Clams Casino has produced a handful of ASAP Rocky’s tracks, as well as tracks for Main Attrakionz, Lil B and Soulja Boy. His beat tape, which is a compilation of his tracks without any lyrics, is arguably more enjoyable to listen to than the songs he originally produced the tracks for.
“Moon & Stars” encapsulates a new subsection of the history of hip-hop. Here’s a link to Big K.R.I.T.’s newest release, 4eva N A Day. And don’t forget to check out Clams Casino’s beat tape. And definitely don’t forget NYU Local while you’re working on that tan. You’re welcome.
